Our Story
It started the end of my freshmen year at Clemson, 2008, Micah’s sophomore year. I first requested to be his friend on facebook and got to know him through other mutual friends in Crusade. We didn’t actually talk much throughout the summer except a couple of conversations via facebook and I commented on his blog. As the school year approached a group of his friends and mine were making plans to go to a Needtobreathe Concert in Anderson. I wanted to go for multiple reasons, mainly being that I would get to hang out with Micah. As fate would have it my friends backed out and the group ended up being Micah, me, Micah’s roommate Kevan, and Kevan’s girlfriend (now wife) Ashley. Looking back we both realize how awkward the night could have been and how to everyone else it looked like a double date. Thankfully the evening was a success. Micah and I got the opportunity to talk more one-on-one and get to know each other better.
After this he started being more intentional about talking to me at Crusade events and seeing me on campus. He eventually got the nerve to ask me to get some ice cream. We went to Spill the Beans on September 24th and talked for about 2 hours. We never talked officially about us or what we were actually doing, but at the end of the evening he made it clear he wanted to do it again. I walked away on cloud nine.
As the next few weeks went on we saw each other outside of Crusade and its planned socials. We studied in the library together, watched all three Jason Bourne movies (his favorites), got dinner on campus a few times, and socialized at football games together. All the while he had made no clear intentions, but I was having a blast being genuinely pursued. On October 7, the Wednesday before Crusade’s fall retreat, Micah admitted he liked me and wanted to continue pursuing me. At fall retreat we continued to spend time together and get to know one another. The next Friday, October 17, was our first official date at Applebee’s. While at dinner Micah made it clear he was ready to pursue me in a dating relationship.
We started dating on October 17, 2008 and on April 9, 2010 we got engaged. You can find the proposal story HERE. A month before we were engaged Micah was offered a job through MIT in Boston. He accepted the position and in August he moved to start. That fall Micah started his job and I finished my last semester at Clemson. I graduated on Thursday and then two days later we got married on December 18, 2010. We love Boston and can’t wait to see where the Lord takes us next.
